INVERURIE ...............2 HUNTLY ....................0 DONALD MacNEILL reports DAVE CORMIE couldn't hide his delight as Locos ended an eight-year hoodoo against Huntly.
Goals in either half from Steven Park and Mo Morrison denied the visitors their ninth straight win at Harlaw Park.
Cormie said: "Huntly are rightly proud of how many times they've won this fixture so I'm pleased the hoodoo was broken.
"Performance-wise I felt the first half was dominated by ourselves while the second half was a poor period but we didn't need to go pushing the game.
"We were always going to give them problems at set-pieces having had them watched in their midweek defeat against Cove.
Longines Watches"It is all about IWC Watches getting wins on the board. Huntly were still in the title race while we went out feeling relaxed."
Inverurie seized the early initiative with Neil Gauld latching on to a flick through and forcing Neil Hastie to come out and block for a corner.
Locos took the lead in 26 minutes when right-back Park netted with an overhead kick after a corner was headed across goal into his path.
Huntly's best chance of the half came when Craig Dorrat ghosted in from the left and struck a powerful volley that came off the inside of Andy Reid's post and away from danger.
Locos increased their lead three minutes into the second half with a deadly combination from ex-Huntly men Andrew Bisset and Morrison.
Bisset fired over a free-kick for Morrison to rise high above the defence to head beyond Hastie.
Rado WatchesThe home side were reduced to 10 men late on when Neil McLean picked up a second yellow.
But Locos were deadly on the break and sub Jack Strachan fired off the bar and forced Hastie into two saves.
Huntly rarely threatened but Reid saved well from Stuart Soane and Michael Ewen.
Beaten boss Dave McGinlay said: "The first goal was crucial. Once again it was sloppy defending at a set-play. We never cleared our lines and Locos did that better than us.
"When we hit the post I felt we would have got a lift had that gone in but again it was a free header for the second and big Mo does what he does best."
