RCMP investigating cause of fa

RCMP believe poor driving and road conditions -- due to a violent thunderstorm -- are partly to blame for the single-vehicle rollover that claimed the life of a 21-year Shilo man.

IT IS a chore most men would try to avoid. But TV host Adrian Chiles appeared happy to give co-presenter Christine Bleakley an early morning lift to Gatwick Airport for a flight to Spain.

PUPILS at a city school can learn about historical archives in a project shortlisted for a national award.

IT'S when you're walking to the penalty spot from your group of teammates standing on the halfway line that you can lose a shootout. The mental torture screws up your mind, turns your legs to jelly. The pressure eats away at your confidence and memory.

Scoring from 12 yards shouldn't be that difficult, but it is.

On the 10-second walk, you begin to think and your mind wanders. It's only natural. Millions are watching at home; the nation is relying on you. Suddenly, the goal shrinks and the opposition goalkeeper looks like he fills the space. Where has the power gone in your legs? It's why, Replica Breitling Watches when people ask if you practise penalties in training, you can't recreate that moment. I left it to the players to practise when I was England coach, but there is no way of recreating the mental demands and pressures of a shootout with a kick-about at the end of training. No way whatsoever.

The players worked on it, but it's different after you have played 120 minutes of the most demanding football. Then you are suddenly asking players to be thrust into a position they may not even want to be in.

For a start, you will have an idea on your first-choice five for the kicks. But how do you know if they will still be on the pitch? Even if they have made the starting line-up, will they still be in the finishing lineup? Maybe they have been injured during the game, or taken off for tactical reasons.

When we went to penalties that night at France '98, we were down to nine outfield players after David Beckham's red card. History, however, has inspired their confidence and they are also well prepared. Jens Lehmann once faced a penalty shootout with a note in his sock that included a run-down from the scouts on where the takers would aim for, based on their previous kicks.

Also, Ben Foster, then playing for Manchester United, was given a video insight into the Tottenham takers on an iPod before the shootout in the Carling Cup final. It worked, because they won the trophy. These are examples of how teams can try to gain an advantage.

Investigation launched into cr

This JON AN investigation has been launched after a Brixham crabber ploughed into the Breakwater while the watchkeeper was asleep at the wheel.

Local anglers were left reeling as they watched the Helen Claire motor headlong into the pier at around ten knots on Wednesday evening.

No one was injured in the accident, which is being looked into by the Marine Accident Investigation Branch.

It is understood that a 19-year-old teenager from Torquay fell asleep at the wheel following a two-day fishing trip.

Three other crew members were understood to be on board at the time. The vessel is owned by Nick Bright, of Paignton.

Coastguard surveyors are refusing to let the crabber, now safely moored in Brixham harbour, return to sea until they have inspected the vessel for any damage.

A Coastguard spokesman said: "The Helen Claire was on its way back to Brixham when it hit the Breakwater.

"Nearly half of the boat was out of the water on the rocks. The tide was turning, and if it had got stuck there it would have rolled over.

"MCA surveyors have been on the boat and they found no ingress of water and only very minimal damage to the boat.

"I believe the boat is due to come out of the water for its summer refit, at which time they will have a full structural survey carried out.

"I have been out to the Breakwater and there doesn't seem to be any visible damage to it."

The trawler's owner was unavailable for comment yesterday.

FOUR Hokowhitu School pupils are famous after winning a Fair Go Junior School Ad Award, but they have learnt it takes a lot of hard work to become stars.

The pupils won the primary- school category, beating about 200 entries nationwide.

Their ad screened on Wednesday night's awards show, to an audience of 745,000 people, TVNZ said.

But their 30 seconds of fame were hard earned - it took them about one hour of work to produce each second of the final advertisement.
