AIADMK general secretary and former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa welcomed on Thursday the United Nations decision to set up a three-member expert committee to probe allegations of war crimes by the Sri Lankan government during the "quarter century" civil war in the island nation.

In a statement issued from her Kodanand Estate in Ooty, where she is "resting", Jayalalithaa also accused Karunanidhi of "abetting" war crimes.
